Become a Volunteer

Who can volunteer?
Volunteers are the backbone of Reach Out and Read Utah. ROR counts on our many wonderful volunteers to read to children in clinic waiting rooms and to do other important jobs. You must be at least 14 years of age (or 10 years of age if accompanied by a parent).

Why volunteer?
Reading aloud to young children is the best way to promote reading success. The ability to read is a major building block for success in school and in life. 35% of all children enter kindergarten unprepared to learn (more than 50% if high risk). By helping children become excited about books and reading, you will be providing them with a gift that will last a lifetime! Did you know:

How can I volunteer?
Reach Out and Read Utah offers several ways in which you can use your skills to help give the gift of reading to children in need in our community. Below is a list of upcoming volunteer opportunities:

Waiting Room Readers: Readers are needed in many of our waiting rooms to read to children at least one hour per week. To learn more about this opportunity, click here. The screening process to be a reader varies by clinic. Currently, volunteer readers are needed at the the Redwood Health Center and the Oquirrh View CHC. To apply as a reader, please complete a preliminary application:

Holiday Gift Wrappers: In November and December volunteers are invited to join ROR-UT to wrap gifts for tips at Barnes & Noble stores across Utah. Tips will be used to buy books for the kids we serve. To volunteer as a gift wrapper, check back with us in October.

Book Drive Organizers: Looking for a community service project for your sorority or fraternity? Need an Eagle Scout Project? Help us round some books for our clinics!
